However, since paying a lot more attention as to how to stay camouflaged to the best of my ability, I learnt that straight lines on a loadout can be a big giveaway. This includes the front part of a cap. When I wore my hood up, I found it always sat back on my cap leaving the front to stick out prominently without any camouflage therefore, creating a clear line. I needed a solution.
To begin with, I tried using hair grips but the thickness of the cap and the hood combined was too much and the grips would end up falling off and getting lost. I had to find something that had more grip. Stationary metal clips. These allow for easy application and can withstand a lot of thickness and be tight enough to keep the hood in place. I tested this out on a skirmish day using some spare ones I had laying around the house. These were red and black.
After finding that this solved the issue of keeping my hood in place, I bought some new ones. This was because using red/black ones were a huge giveaway still not really fitting in with the camouflage colours. I bought a pack of 10 black ones and spray painted the black part green. I then got some left over Jack Pyke tape and used that to cover up one of the silver metal clips that would sit on top. This could be an issue that comes to the surface more now we are in the summer months.
This then allowed for the clips to not only accomplish the issue I had, but help maintain my camouflage. I’ve not yet come across anyone else with this idea and if anyone else was to have an issue similar to me, I’d recommend this cheap and easy solution.
