AimCam 2i

Jun 29, 2022

I had been using HeroShark for some time now and kept thinking about the possibility of recording some game play. But didn’t like the hassle that came with wearing a Go Pro and constantly not being aware if it was recording, wiring up a portable charger and attaching it etc.

Whilst attending the Northern Shooting Show with my northern airsoft friends, we came across a stand for AimCam. This is a business that sells eye protection for actual shooting but with a built in camera so recording is taken from the eyesight of the user. The footage being shown was hunting or general shooting and nothing Airsoft related. This caught my attention. After chatting to the salesmen and being convinced further, I decided to purchase a pair! This was the AimCam Pro 2i.

This product also comes with the choice of a 3K or 4K resolution but for a little more money and I was impressed with the quality of the 1080p myself so I went with this option. The purchase came with a manuals quick start warranty, protective storage case, x3 Z87+ Lenses, adjustable head strap, nose pads, spare clips and screws, micro tool, cleaning cloth, 1M data/charging cable and a protective cleaning bag.

When I put the glasses on, although they felt a lot bigger compared to the eye pro I was used to, they felt really comfortable. Occasionally, with them being a little heavier, they’d slip forward a little so I solved this with the adjustable head strap which came with the glasses. To operate the camera, there are two buttons on the left arm of the glasses and are very straight forward to use and is well explained in the manual.

In order to have a longer recording time, I simply plugged my eye pro into a portable charger and had the wire run round the back of my neck and the portable charger sit in my Viper VX chest rig and this didn’t get in the way or annoy me at all. It worked really well. Then at lunch time, I simply swapped out the SD card for a clean one to record the afternoon games.

I think that the angle that is captured for footage from the AimCam lenses is unique. It suits much better than having a camera on top of the head in my opinion. It captures more what the player sees and a more realistic view as well as not adding extra kit to your loadout.
